Will combination GPT & NFTs eat humanity?
How could one distinguish between human creation and content generated by GPT-3 &c? Aren’t they the same? Are we entering to generative age? What’s adds provenance and creates humanity attributes to your digital crafts?
This article is a bit induced by CGI avatars — visually & infinite appealing representation of human-like faces and Metaverses — new (digital) worlds dimensions and their movement on the web, especially in the web3. Human still writes this article in its own time frame. This is more likely based on thoughts infused from recent research on new digital frontiers that will eventually create an immersive experience for oneself through extended reality.

The first principle thinking could lead us that AGI will lower the costs of current labour needed to produce some digital content. In the nowadays creative industry, we have briefly three categories comparing to traditional models on content creation
- solve custody of funds
- someone to produce content
- virus-resistance
All three are fairly easily cracked through storing funds in a trust-less form in a smart contract, and generated interest will go to the creator. AI, which will generate media, depends only on compute costs and access to algorithms and knowledge networks. This is fairly and easily replicable over any data center. Third, digital is immune to the physical virus; thus, no pandemic could stop AI from running in the data center. Anytime soon.
Accounting having cryptocurrency incentives similar to bounties network, you could instruct the GPT army to be constructive or destructive. What will their entities behind the steering wheel choose? This will lead us to the governance of this artificial creator's economy and how backers will be rewarded for long-term contribution to product evolution, such as voting privileges on the next content craft.
Synthetic content production
This would originally lead me to have a synthetic media generator with a single click. Establishing synthetic content production could lead to exciting ways to abuse and lead to the death of original humanity and creators' value. No need to expand on it here as it’s fair obvious it's slowly happening in reality.
Crucial problems could surface,, like the provenance of content. Similiar like blue checkmarks have people, where one centralized, custodial service provider like Twitter is in charge to decide, who is legitimate content creator regarding that pseudonym. But nobody could deny that AI itself would become verified. I guess it will eventually happen. There is a way for anyone who could pass the hash from the inbox on the custodial social network and become verified, for example, on Kusama.network.
Nothing could stop the algorithm become a verified algorithm.
AI could inherit your past knowledge of your family. For example, you could have cultural preservation of your family. AI can establish it as collectible, and later other AI pod could pick it to generate on top of it your new family, induce new cultural roots.
A lot of innovation happens on the object level, more like the visual level. I’m more interested in the intelligent level, like if NFTs could become a character itself. People could be in charge of character properties through voting rights. People will be voting for the best and most appreciated properties, which another network of people will eventually appreciate. Eventually, AI NFT will adjust itself and start gaining and farming better exposure to invading other users' brains and attention. Well, we could iterate till the infinite what would happen, and I’m sure someone will make it a reality. Probably next reality won’t be created by humans. Once AI will re-enter into its own self-reinforcement loop and spread over datacenters, it would be hard to stop as it would be running on permissionless networks.
Artificially created scarcity
Whenever we could approach programmable scarcity, what it’s valuable for humanity after all?
Once there will be crowds fueling various meme pools, one could not stop artificial creations, and networks would be flooded. Humans' problem is that they have a limited lifespan, limited attention, limited consumption of digital content; on the other side, algorithms can scale, and the only limit is available computational costs, knowledge, and funds in the smart contracts.
I guess intersection or continuous interaction would be around knowledge graphs. People slowly put their knowledge inside second brains like Obsidian or RoamResearch,, where you are creating better-networked thought and adds density to your insights. That will naturally fuel this expansion and transition to one exit their mortal-frames and becoming digitally-first.
My skin in the game is that I’ve spent some serious amount of time 100hours breeding my first second brain on biohacking and lessons learned to achieve faster self-improvement and later leverage knowledge in some sort of neural link. It has paid off; I feel much happier, enjoy life way deeper, and my overall inflammation in the body significantly decreased.
My second 2nd brain on KodaDot took me significantly less as my original brain learned to play around. From here, it’s just a matter of time and several various realizations how long it would take me to experiment on knowledge graphs, AI and NFTs.
Conclusion
Probably you were hit by GPT-3 wave in summer 2020. You can still fetch recent drops on Twitter. Probably you occurred back in time on IRC networks; everyone has been building the Markov chain. I guess it’s just an obvious cycle one can observe on the long-term horizon. Probably only a few could argue whenever we’d pass(ed) the inflection point on the AGI Singularity curve.
